Climate Outreach – 4th Charity of the week
During Week 4 we were going to hear from Climate Outreach. This is an Oxford-based charity researching some of the most central questions about climate change, communication and providing practical resources and workshops which can be accessed in all sorts of different locations. This one day workshop will look at finding the structure within the picture that you have chosen to paint. We will look at the different images found in the garden and sculptural landscape, and see how we can simplify the different areas of our painting to maintain the colour relationships between the light and shadow. In this workshop with sculptor Jantien Kahn, you will be working with small pieces of soapstone and alabaster to create beautiful stone necklaces. This workshop is for all ages, although children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult, whether the adult is taking part in the workshop or visiting the exhibition.

Open afternoon at the Potting Shed – Sat 15 August, 1-5pm
In celebration of our much-missed friend, Claire Turnbull, Fiona Cullinane is opening the Potting Shed cafe for one afternoon, for afternoon tea with cakes and scones. Cafe customers will also be able to wander around the gardens of Asthall Manor, which they may be invited to do in order to enable social distancing at the cafe. No booking necessary, but please donate to Pancreatic Cancer UK. Payment by cash or card will also be accepted on the day.

Kieran Stiles Art Workshops
Kieran will be running a series of 3 workshops on 22nd, 29th September and 6th October. Explore different techniques in each session with demonstrations of techniques in the main image using ink and watercolour, wet into wet. Kieran Stiles Art Workshop – Abstract Oils
Held in the Ballroom at Asthall Manor. Neil Canning talks about “painting what it is like to move through the landscape.” Linking with Franz Kline, Barbara Hepworth and Terry Frost’s ideas about representing movement, learn about abstraction and applying thick oil paint with card spatulas, where the surface of the painting becomes relief. Held in the Ballroom at Asthall Manor. Explore how charcoal can be combined with ink washes and bleach to create interesting textures. Working from direct observation of the figure, this life drawing class includes technical advice on observation drawing and measuring the proportions of the figure. All materials included, except non-textured A2 watercolour paper or thick A2 cartridge paper which you will need to bring. The cost of the workshop is £55.00.
