What strikes visitors to the garden at Asthall is how much it is loved. Mary Keen, House & Garden
Here are our Spring Summer Garden open days for 2026! Advance booking essential.
May and June
The garden will be open for visitors on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 20th May to 20th June inclusive. That’s fifteen days in all! Open from 2pm-6pm
Special event
On Saturday 13th June, we are delighted to welcome Rachel Trethewey, author of the recently published biography of Sydney Redesdale, Muv – the story of the Mitford girls’ mother. Rachel will be signing books (and there will be copies for sale) and chatting to garden visitors about this extraordinary family, who lived at Asthall Manor from 1919 to 1926. You will find Rachel in the pool house, if the weather is fine, and if it’s not, we’ll find somewhere more cosy for her!

** Garden groups – you are welcome to book through the open days if there is availability.
For larger or more specialist group bookings, we encourage you to visit on a day that we are open to the public, but we will on occasions allow earlier entry for a large group, from 11am. If you wish to book a large group visit or need more advice on your requirements, please contact [email protected] and we’ll see what we can do.
Please note the following:
- Accessibility: our garden is not flat. We have steep slopes and steps in places. Those with physical disabilities should be able to access more than half of the garden, especially if with a friend or carer, but not all of it. Loos: We don’t have a fully accessible toilet, but we do have one that most wheelchair-users can use. We are intending to make some improvements.
- Please ensure you bring water with you, especially on hot days, and adequate weather protection (rain/cold/sun). We do have taps around the garden which you can fill up your water bottles, if required.
- The main house is closed to the public.
Sorry, no dogs, except assistance dogs.
